WEEK 15: WHoopDirt.com Coach of the Week presented by Just Play Solutions

Congratulations to the following coaches who have been selected as the Week 15 WHoopDirt.com Coach of the Week presented by Just Play Solutions. These coaches are now eligible to receive the WHoopDirt.com National Coach of the Year Award presented by Just Play Solutions which will be announced at the conclusion of the 2022-23 college basketball season.

This is the fourth season that WHoopDirt.com has run the Coach of the Week and Coach of the Year programs. The list of 2022-23 Coach of the Week winners, as well as previous Coach of the Year winners can be found below this week’s recipients

The Week 15 winners are:


NCAA D1: Lisa Carlsen – Northern Illinois University

Weekly Record (Overall): 2-0 (14-11)
Past week’s results: 85-81 W at Bowling Green, 84-77 W vs Ball State.
Highlights: Snapped MAC co-leader BGSU’s (23-3) 11-game win streak, and handed the Falcons their first home loss of the season on Wednesday. This win was also the 300th career career win for Carlsen. On Saturday, NIU beat another MAC co-leader Ball State (22-5), and ended their 10-game win streak.

NCAA D2: Serena King-Coleman – Fayetteville State

Weekly Record (Overall): 2-0 (18-6)
Past week’s results: 78-62 W at Claflin, 76-44 W vs St. Augustine’s.
Highlights: FSU secured the top seed in the upcoming CIAA tournament with two more wins last week. The Broncos finished the regular season on an eight-game win streak, 14-2 in the CIAA, and 8-2 at home. They will have an opening round bye in this week’s CIAA tourney.

NCAA D3: Ben O’Brien – University of Scranton

Weekly Record (Overall): 2-0 (25-0)
Past week’s results: 73-45 W at Moravian, 70-45 W vs Juniata.
Highlights: Two more blow-out wins for O’Brien’s #3 Scranton squad as they end the regular season with a perfect 25-0 record. This is the first unbeaten regular season for the Lady Royals since going 25-0 in 2015-16. They are the top-seed in this week’s Landmark Conference Tournament.

NAIA: Clifton Williams – University of Pikeville

Weekly Record (Overall): 2-0 (21-7)
Past week’s results: 77-55 W at Wilberforce, 71-68 W vs #1 Thomas More.
Highlights: Williams’ #25 UPike squad ended the regular season on a high note, as they knocked off the #1 NAIA team in the country on Saturday. The win also propelled them to the #3 seed in the MSC tournament, where they will play on Friday.

JUCO: Marbely Montas – Union College (NJ)

Weekly Record (Overall): 2-0 (22-5)
Past week’s results: 86-60 W vs #7 Harcum College, 109-61 W vs CCBC Catonsville.
Highlights: Two big wins last week for Union, including knocking off the #7 NJCAA D2 team in the nation, to close out the regular season. Montas’ Owls have now captured six straight GSAC conference championships, and will face Lackawanna in the Region XIX Tournament Semi-Final on Friday.
