WEEK 4: WHoopDirt.com Coach of the Week presented by Just Play Solutions

Congratulations to the following coaches who have been selected as the Week 4 WHoopDirt.com Coach of the Week presented by Just Play Solutions. These coaches are now eligible to receive the WHoopDirt.com National Coach of the Year Award presented by Just Play Solutions which will be announced at the conclusion of the 2022-23 college basketball season.

This is the fourth season that WHoopDirt.com has run the Coach of the Week and Coach of the Year programs. The list of 2022-23 Coach of the Week winners, as well as previous Coach of the Year winners can be found below this week’s recipients

The Week 4 winners are:


NCAA D1: Teri Moren – Indiana University

Weekly Record (Overall): 2-0 (9-0)
Past week’s results: 87-63 W vs #6 North Carolina, 67-65 W vs Illinois.
Highlights: Win vs #6 UNC was first vs the Tar Heels in program history, and was first ACC/Big Ten Challenge win since 2019. The #5 Hoosiers moved to 1-0 in the Big Ten with W over Illinois (which was 14th straight over the Illini).

NCAA D2: Jenepher Banker – Daemen University

Weekly Record (Overall): 2-0 (6-0)
Past week’s results: 74-56 W vs Molloy, 61-43 W vs Queens.
Highlights: #10 Daemen won two more games this week to increase their winning streak to 6 to open the season. The Wildcats are off to their best start during their NCAA era (2015-present) and the best start overall since they opened the 2012-13 season with six straight wins.

NCAA D3: J.R. Fredette – Albertus Magnus College

Weekly Record (Overall): 2-0 (5-0)
Past week’s results: 74-36 W vs Fisher, 89-72 W vs Emmanuel.
Highlights: The 5-0 Falcons had a monster GNAC win vs Emmanuel on Saturday. The last time Albertus Magnus beat conference foe EC was back on November 29, 1994 – 28 years ago.

NAIA: Candace Walker – St. Thomas University

Weekly Record (Overall): 2-0 (10-0)
Past week’s results: 86-61 W at Coastal Georgia, 83-52 W at Thomas U.
Highlights: Walker’s Bobcats swept their Sun Conference Georgia swing to run their record to 10-0 on the season. STU is out scoring opponents by 22.9ppg this season while holding them to 55.8ppg.

JUCO: Clenita “Penny” Belford – Pensacola State College

Weekly Record (Overall): 3-0 (11-2)
Past week’s results: 61-55 W vs Mississippi Gulf Coast, 71-59 W at Santa Fe, 64-61 W vs #23 Indian River.
Highlights: Three more wins last week for Belford’s Pirates push their record to 11-2. After opening the week with a win vs Mississippi Gulf Coast, Pensacola won both games over the weekend in the Florida College’s Women’s Basketball Shootout at Santa Fe, including a W vs nationally ranked IRSC.
