WHoopDirt.com 2021-22 NCAA D1 Coach of the Year presented by Capital Elite Agency

University of South Carolina Head Women’s Basketball Coach Dawn Staleyhas been named as the WHoopDirt.com NCAA D1 Coach of the Year presented by Capital Elite Agency for the 2021-22 college basketball season. Staley qualified for the award by being named as the WHoopDirt.com/Capital Elite Agency Coach of the Week in Week 7 of the season. This is the second time in the past three years that Staley has captured this award.

Coach Staley led South Carolina to an historic 2021-22 season, concluding with her second National Championship victory. The Gamecocks finished the season with a record of 35-2, breaking the program wins record previously set under Staley during the 2014-15 campaign. South Carolina also posted its most ever wins against ranked teams, going an incredible 14-0 against Top 25 opponents.

Staley’s squad was ranked No. 1 in every AP Top 25 Poll this season. They took 27 of their 32 victories by double-digits, outscoring opponents by an average of 20.2 points per game. The Gamecocks also had the third best scoring defense and best rebounding margin in the country, allowing just 50.7 points per game and pulling down an average of 17.7 more rebounds per game than their opponents.

With a 64-49 victory over UConn on April 3rd, Coach Staley became just the sixth coach in women’s NCAA Tournament history to win more than one National Championship. She was honored with the WBCA’s Pat Summit National Coach of the Year award and the Naismith Coach of the Year award, capturing both for the second time in the past three seasons. Staley also picked up the USBWA’s Coach of the Year honor.
