WEEK 5: WHoopDirt.com Coach of the Week presented by Just Play Solutions

Congratulations to the following coaches who have been selected as the Week 5 WHoopDirt.com Coach of the Week presented by Just Play Solutions. These coaches are now eligible to receive the WHoopDirt.com National Coach of the Year Award presented by Just Play Solutions which will be announced at the conclusion of the 2022-23 college basketball season.

This is the fourth season that WHoopDirt.com has run the Coach of the Week and Coach of the Year programs. The list of 2022-23 Coach of the Week winners, as well as previous Coach of the Year winners can be found below this week’s recipients

The Week 5 winners are:


NCAA D1: Tricia Cullop – University of Toledo

Weekly Record (Overall): 2-0 (8-2)
Past week’s results: 71-68 W at #14 Michigan, 57-45 W vs Dayton.
Highlights: Toledo went on the road to Ann Arbor on Thursday night and handed #14 Michigan their first loss of the season. This was the Rockets first win vs a ranked opponent since 2009, and first road win vs a ranked team since 1996. Toledo has now on a 5 game winning streak.

NCAA D2: Stephanie Lawrence Yelton – University of West Florida

Weekly Record (Overall): 2-0 (5-2)
Past week’s results: 72-69 W vs #5 Union, 79-72 W vs Christian Brothers.
Highlights: UWF knocked off Union on Friday, giving the 5th ranked team in the country their first loss of the season. The win on Sunday vs CBU runs their win streak to 3, and puts them 5-2 in the GSC.

NCAA D3: KJ Krasco – Middlebury College

Weekly Record (Overall): 3-0 (6-3)
Past week’s results: 60-35 W vs Plattsburgh State, 53-29 W at Skidmore, 49-28 W vs Union.
Highlights: Three big-time defensive performances this week for Krasco’s Panthers, as the let up only 29ppg/avg in their 3 wins.

NAIA: Bill Harmsen – Dordt University

Weekly Record (Overall): 2-0 (12-0)
Past week’s results: 65-55 W vs #16 Northwestern, 75-65 W vs Dakota Wesleyan.
Highlights: Harmsen’s #5 Defenders took care of two ranked opponents at home last week to run their winning streak to 12, and remain unbeaten on the season.

JUCO: Riley Maye – Harcum College

Weekly Record (Overall): 2-0 (12-1)
Past week’s results: 70-54 W vs Union County, 94-74 W vs CCBC Catonsville.
Highlights: Two more wins this week for Maye’s squad pushed the win streak to 10. The Bears are also a perfect 7-0 at home on the season.
