Hoard qualified for the award by being named as the WHoopDirt.com/Capital Elite Agency Coach of the Week in Week 14 of the season.
It was a season to remember for Coach Hoard, as she guided Tyler Junior College to a National Championship, picked up her 500th career victory, and racked up a number of postseason awards.
Hoard’s Apaches, who ranked 13th in the final Top 25 poll, closed out the season with a record of 28-8, defeating Georgia Highlands 92-80 to capture the NJCAA D1 National Title on March 21st. Just over a month prior, Coach Hoard had picked up her 500th career win in a 75-72 victory over Kilgore. After the season, she was honored as Coach of the Tournament, and was named as the Division I Coach of the Year by the NJCAA. Coach Hoard was also named to the College Basketball Coaching Honor Roll by Achieving Coaching Excellence.
In addition to these honors, Hoard became the first African-American women’s head coach to capture the NJCAA D1 National Title. Having completed her 22nd season with Tyler, Hoard now holds an impressive record of 507-208 (.709).
