Maryland Women’s Basketball Staff Update

Maryland women’s basketball head coach Brenda Frese announced staff updates ahead of the 2026-27 season.

Carley Kuhns will now serve as the Terps’ Associate Head Coach / Offensive Specialist. Lindsey Spann Pough was promoted to Assistant Coach / Assistant General Manager and Noelle Cobb was promoted to Assistant Coach / Recruiting Coordinator.

Kuhns joined Frese’s staff in the spring of 2025, after leading the Samford women’s basketball program as head coach for six seasons. Kuhns led the Bulldogs to two SoCon championships and two appearances in the NCAA Tournament. Kuhns was named SoCon Coach of the Year in both 2020 and 2021. In her first year in College Park, Kuhns helped the Terrapins to three wins over ranked teams and an appearance in the NCAA Second Round.

“Carley and her family have been terrific additions to our program,” Frese said. “They bring so much more than just basketball. Year one together went so well and I’m excited for what’s ahead. For me, it’s a real bonus to have a trusted staff member who’s been a head coach and has run a program.”

“My first year here at Maryland has been such an incredible experience for not only myself, but for my entire family,” Kuhns said. “Working for Brenda, and alongside this incredible staff has been one of the biggest blessings of my life and career. I’m honored Brenda believes in me to help continue to guide this program in the right direction! Go Terps!”

Spann Pough served as the Terrapins’ Recruiting Coordinator for six seasons, overseeing the day-to-day operations, visit planning and signings of all recruits. In her seven seasons at Maryland, Spann Pough has helped the Terps earn a record of 173-53 (.765) and win the 2020, 2021 Big Ten regular season titles and the 2020 and 2021 Big Ten Tournament titles. Spann Pough helped the Terrapins to four Sweet Sixteens in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2025 and the 2023 Elite Eight.

“In the same way that we take great pride in how we develop players, watching Lindsey’s growth on our staff has been really special to see,” Frese said. “In this ever-changing landscape, Lindsey has adapted well to helping us figure out how to manage it. Not only is she fantastic with relationships, but I think she’s found she enjoys the business side of it too.”

“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to step into the role of Assistant General Manager,” Spann Pough said. “Serving as recruiting coordinator for the past six years has allowed me to grow, build meaningful relationships, and contribute to the success of our program in many ways. As women’s college basketball continues to evolve, I am excited to embrace new responsibilities, help navigate the opportunities and challenges ahead for our student-athletes, and continue coaching young women who are driven to compete at the highest level. I am thankful for Coach Frese’s trust and support throughout the years and look forward to many more successful seasons at Maryland.”

Cobb served as Director of Recruiting the past three seasons, assisting with the daily management of recruiting and hosting prospective Terrapins. In her three seasons in College Park, Cobb helped the Terrapins to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances and the 2025 Sweet Sixteen.

“Noelle came in young and hungry to learn,” Frese said. “She’s taken on every assignment we’ve thrown at her with real enthusiasm. I’m happy that she can continue to evolve in her role and do it while staying here with us. She has a real passion for helping the players in our program.”

“The past three seasons at Maryland have been such a blessing, and truly been able to learn from the best of the best, Coach Frese,” Cobb said. “I’m excited and hungry for this opportunity to continue to recruit for Maryland at a high level. I’m thankful to Coach Spann for showing me what it takes to be an elite recruiter and continue to bring the best student athletes to College Park.”
