These coaches are now eligible to receive the WHoopDirt.com National Coach of the Year Award presented by Just Play Solutions which will be announced at the conclusion of the 2022-23 college basketball season.
This is the fourth season that WHoopDirt.com has run the Coach of the Week and Coach of the Year programs. The list of 2022-23 Coach of the Week winners, as well as previous Coach of the Year winners can be found below this week’s recipients

NCAA D1: Larry Vickers – Norfolk State
Weekly Record (Overall): 3-0 (6-1) |
Past week’s results: 62-48 W vs Purdue Ft. Wayne, 70-55 W vs Tennessee Martin, 48-43 W vs Marshall. |
Highlights: NSU won three games in three days at the Hostilo Hoops Community Classic. The Spartans have now won 5 straight, and are off to their first 6-1 start since the 2001-02 season. |
NCAA D2: Grahm Smith – Lenoir-Rhyne
Weekly Record (Overall): 2-0 (6-0) |
Past week’s results: 85-81 (OT) W vs #21 Wingate, 94-34 W vs Converse. |
Highlights: Beat #21 Wingate in OT to open the week – their second win vs a ranked team this season. The win vs Converse on Saturday was largest margin of victory since 1983. LR is 6-0 for the first time since 2007. |
NCAA D3: Juli Fulks – Transylvania University
Weekly Record (Overall): 2-0 (4-0) |
Past week’s results: 63-46 W vs Wilmington, 73-56 W vs Denison. |
Highlights: The #2 ranked D3 team in the country captured the Pat Deacon Classic with two wins this week. In the opening game, they handed previously undefeated Wilmington their first loss of the season. |
NAIA: Jeff Hans – Thomas More University

Past week’s results: 92-41 W at Wilberforce, 74-50 W vs Southeastern, 74-48 W vs Miami Hamilton. |
Highlights: Hans won the 300th game of his career in the opener of the Julie Costello Classic on Friday. The number 1 ranked Saints have beaten 4 nationally ranked teams this season, and have an average margin of victory of 21.2. |
JUCO: Tanya Kaufmann – Western Technical College
Weekly Record (Overall): 2-0 (3-1) |
Past week’s results: 92-73 W vs Northland, 92-62 W vs Minnesota North Rainy River. |
Highlights: The Cavaliers had two dominant wins in the Anoka-Ramsey Thanksgiving Classic. Let off 67.5ppg in the classic, while averaging 92. |
