Congratulations to the following coaches who have been selected as the Week 2 WHoopDirt.com Coach of the Week presented by Just Play Solutions. These coaches are now eligible to receive the WHoopDirt.com National Coach of the Year Award presented by Just Play Solutions which will be announced at the conclusion of the 2022-23 college basketball season.
This is the fourth season that WHoopDirt.com has run the Coach of the Week and Coach of the Year programs. The list of 2022-23 Coach of the Week winners, as well as previous Coach of the Year winners can be found below this week’s recipients

NCAA D1: Ashleen Bracey – UIC
Weekly Record (Overall): 2-0 (3-0) |
Past week’s results: 87-62 W at Chicago State, 44-43 W vs Milwaukee. |
Highlights: First-year Head Coach Bracey’s 3 wins on the season already eclipse last year’s win total, and tie the most the program has had since the 2017-18 season. Win vs Milwaukee was first since 2014-15. |
NCAA D2: Taylor Harris – Fort Lewis College

Past week’s results: 80-70 W vs Northern New Mexico, 73-72 W vs Embry-Riddle |
Highlights: Beat Northern New Mexico Friday on Nike N7 night which honored Native American Heritage month. With a crowd of 2000, the Skyhawks dressed in their turquoise N7 jerseys and welcomed local tribal leaders. FLC knocked down a FT with 1 second remaining to beat ERAU on Saturday. 3 wins this season already surpass last years total. |
NCAA D3: Lynn Hersey – Smith College

Past week’s results: 66-60 (OT) W vs Maine Maritime, 59-54 W at Bowdoin. |
Highlights: Won both games at Bowdoin’s Coastal Classic. Hersey’s squad, ranked #7 nationally, handed Bowdoin their first loss of the year, and is 4-0 for the first time since 2019. |
NAIA: Darrick Matthews – University of Science and Arts (OK)

Past week’s results: 76-71 W at John Brown, 77-72 W vs Oklahoma City |
Highlights: Beat previously undefeated JBU on the road on Thursday. Win vs OCU on Saturday propelled USAO to best start in program history (7-0). |
JUCO: Kim Muhl – Kirkwood Community College
Weekly Record (Overall): 2-0 (6-0) |
Past week’s results: 70-49 W vs Bryant and Stratton, 74-69 W vs Rock Valley. |
Highlights: The #1 ranked NJCAA D2 team in the country won both games in the Kirkwood Classic. Gave Rock Valley their first loss of the season on Saturday. |
