Manhattan Jaspers’ Women’s Basketball Head Coach Heather Vulin has announced the promotion of Cori Coleman to Assistant Coach ahead of the 2025-26 campaign, on Monday afternoon.
“Cori brings an incredible basketball background with NYC roots and international excellence.” Said Vulin.
“She joined us last year as our DOBO, but her on-court acumen, passion for the game, and commitment to the overall development of our players stood out. We are excited to promote her to assistant coach. We think she has so much to offer our program and will continue to be an incredible mentor to our players.”
The Springfield Gardens native joined the Jaspers’ Women’s Basketball program as the Director of Basketball Operations ahead of the 2024-25 campaign, where she oversaw day-to-day staffing needs and operations.
“I am excited to embark on this new journey as an assistant coach at the Division 1 level in the city that made me who I am as an athlete and now as a coach. I am grateful for Coach Vulin and all of athletics for accepting me into the Jasper family”, said Coleman.
After her collegiate playing days, Coleman played professionally in Germany, Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Morocco, Egypt, and Australia for the Hobart Chargers in the NBL1 Women’s South Conference. While playing for Gottingen in Germany, she won Second Honors in Top League Germany during the 2017-18 campaign. During her time competing for Top League Luxembourg, Coleman was named the Defensive Player of the Year in 2021-22, and was nominated guard of the year in Top League Sweden’s EOS Lund during 2022-23.
As a student-athlete, Coleman competed for the Cleveland State University Vikings in the Horizon League and emerged as one of the best players to wear the Green and White in the Buckeye State.
In her senior year at Cleveland State, Coleman was named to the All-Horizon League First Team after posting her best numbers by totaling 512 points and averaging 16.0 per game. She logged 89 assists and elevated her assist-per-game total nearly one assist year-over-year. Coleman started in all 32 games, which included a trip to the Horizon League Semifinals and a WNIT appearance against Michigan. She also averaged 36.2 minutes on the floor, while eclipsing the 200 rebound mark for the first time in her illustrious four years in Ohio. Finally, Coleman was also recognized by Cleveland State as Varsity “C” Most Outstanding Player in 2014-15.
During the 2013-14 season, Coleman became the 24th Viking in program history to record 1,000 career points, while tying the Cleveland State single-season three-point record, totaling 67 throughout the year. She currently sits third in the respective category.
In her sophomore campaign, the native New Yorker was a fixture in the starting lineup for all 30 games she competed in and finished the respective 2012-13 season in the top 15 in scoring on the Horizon League charts. Additionally, Coleman’s defense was crucial to the team’s success, where she averaged 1.8 steals per game, good for seventh in the conference, while amassing a 36.5 percent shooting clip throughout the year.
To open her time at Cleveland State, Coleman started the final 23 games of her 29 games played and became just the fifth freshman to record at least 200 points under her former head coach, where she logged 12 double-digit scoring games.
Coleman finished her collegiate career averaging 13.0 points per game and totaling 1,584 points as a Viking student athlete, which placed her seventh on the all-time 1,000-point scorers list for Cleveland State Women’s Basketball.
Still standing today, Coleman sits in the top 10 in numerous single-season records, which include Three-Point Field Goals Attempted with 182 (10th). Three-Point Field Goal Percentage at 396 (67-for-169) (7th). Logged the sixth most minutes by a Viking in 2014-15 at 1,159, while corralling the eighth most offensive rebounds during the team’s WNIT appearance season with 88.
Coleman sits in the top 10 in program history with 1,584 points (7th), 238 offensive rebounds (6th), 1,306 field-goals attempted (8th), 229 steals (6th), 550 field-goals made (8th), .353 three-point field-goal percentage (6th), 121 total games played (7th), 217 three-point field-goals made (2nd), 614 three-point field goal attempts (2nd), and 115 games started (2nd).
While a member of Murry Bergtraum High School, Coleman averaged 13 points per game, corralling seven boards, and notched four assists per game as a senior.
Additionally, she earned First Team All-Manhattan and All-State honors as an 11th Grader. To cap off her run of accolades, Coleman was named Manhattan Player of the Year while earning first-team All-City and All-State. She helped lead Murry Bergtraum to four straight Public School Athletic League (PSAL) championships and was named to the ESPN Rise National Invitational All-Star First Team as a senior.
