Siena Women’s Basketball Head Coach Terry Primm has announced the addition of Chad Smith as an assistant coach. A proven leader with experience spanning Division I basketball, recruiting, player development, scouting, and program operations, Smith joins the Saints after coaching stops at St. Bonaventure and Bard College and brings nearly two decades of leadership experience in athletics and the military to Loudonville.
Smith arrives at Siena with experience across multiple levels of collegiate basketball, including Division I coaching, operations, recruiting, player development, scouting, and analytics. Most recently, he served as an assistant women’s basketball coach at Bard College, where he played a key role in player development, recruiting coordination, scouting, practice planning, and culture-building initiatives. Prior to his time at Bard, Smith spent the 2024-25 season at St. Bonaventure University as Assistant Coach and Director of Operations, overseeing team logistics, travel, scheduling, and day-to-day program operations while helping strengthen alumni and community engagement.
“Chad brings Division I experience, strong recruiting relationships, player development experience, and a professionalism that aligns with our standards and vision for the program,” said Primm. “Most importantly, Chad believes in building meaningful relationships with student-athletes while helping them grow on and off the court. His energy, work ethic, and commitment to excellence will be a great addition to our family. Please take a moment to welcome Chad and his family and help him feel at home as he joins us in building something special—we will be the first Metro Conference champs!”
Before his stops at Bard and St. Bonaventure, Smith served as Video Coordinator and Graduate Manager for the men’s basketball program at University of Evansville. In those roles, he contributed to opponent scouting, performance analysis, recruiting operations, student-athlete support, travel coordination, and digital content creation while helping oversee the day-to-day operations of the program.
“I am beyond grateful to Coach Primm for the opportunity to join the Saints Women’s Basketball family,” said Smith. “This game has given me so much, and I am honored to continue serving through it. I look forward to investing in our student-athletes, building meaningful relationships, and helping create a championship culture rooted in growth, accountability, and love. Excited for the journey ahead. Go Saints!”
Smith also brings extensive experience in talent evaluation and recruiting through his work as a basketball scout with Prep Hoops, where he identified and evaluated prospective student-athletes and built relationships with coaches and basketball organizations throughout the recruiting landscape.
A graduate of Gonzaga University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, Smith earned a master’s degree in leadership from the University of Evansville and a master’s degree in sports management from the University of Florida. He also served in the United States Army for a decade as an Infantry Sergeant, where he developed leadership, training, and team-building skills that continue to influence his coaching philosophy.
Smith will join the Siena community ahead of the 2026-27 season.
