Week 4: WHoopDirt.com Coach of the Week presented by Capital Elite Agency

Congratulations to the following coaches who have been selected as the Week 4 WHoopDirt.com Coach of the Week presented by Capital Elite Agency. These coaches are now eligible to receive the WHoopDirt.com National Coach of the Year Award presented by Capital Elite Agency which will be announced at the conclusion of the 2021-22 college basketball season.

This is the third season that WHoopDirt.com has run the Coach of the Week and Coach of the Year programs. The list of 2021-22 Coach of the Week winners, as well as previous Coach of the Year winners can be found below this week’s recipients.

The Week 4 winners are:


NCAA DI: Ty Grace – Howard University

Ty Grace Coach Grace led Howard to a pair of thrilling victories this week, as the Bison rebounded from a double-digit fourth quarter deficit on Wednesday, and knocked down a last-second layup in overtime to secure the win on Saturday. Howard trailed Loyola-Maryland by ten with under nine minutes remaining on Wednesday, but rallied to take the lead in the closing stages of the game and hold on for a 61-59 triumph. There was no shortage of drama in the Bison’s next contest either, as they found themselves locked in a tie game with Hofstra in the final seconds of overtime. With three seconds remaining, guard Destiny Howell knocked down a layup that would prove to be the game-winner, as the Bison took a hard-fought 63-61 victory. Now 4-4 on the season, Howard will try to make it three wins in a row when they play at George Washington on Sunday.


NCAA DII: Carrie Eighmey – University of Nebraska at Kearney

Carrie Eighmey Coach Eighmey’s squad picked up two tightly-contested victories to begin conference play this week, extending their overall winning streak to six. The 20th-ranked Lopers visited No. 18 Emporia State in the MIAA opener on Thursday, closing the game on a 10-1 run to come away with a 59-58 win. UNK managed to take the victory after leading for just 1:56 in the contest. In their next match-up, the Lopers held Washburn to just 16 second half points en route to a 49-43 road triumph. Now 7-1 (2-0 MIAA) on the season, UNK returns to action on Saturday, when they face off against Fort Hays State on the road. 


NCAA DIII: Brian Morehouse – Hope College

Brian Morehouse With two more wins this week, Coach Morehouse’s Hope squad extended their winning streak to 52 consecutive contests dating back to the 2019-20 season. The top-ranked Flying Dutch dominated wire-to-wire in a 91-42 victory over Calvin to kick off conference play on Wednesday. Back in action on Saturday, Hope defeated Aquinas by a score of 78-51 to extend the seventh-longest winning streak in NCAA Division III history. Holding a record of 7-0 (1-0 MIAA) on the season, the Flying Dutch have won every contest to date by at least 27 points. They will host Benedictine in a non-conference match-up on Thursday.


NAIA: Bryon Lawhon – Bryan College

Bryon Lawhon Image In his first season with Bryan, Coach Lawhon has picked up right where the program left off, as he has the Lady Lions off to a 9-0 start to the season. No. 25 Bryan opened this week by holding Truett-McConnell to just three points in the fourth quarter of a 70-43 victory on Wednesday. The Lady Lions out-rebounded Columbia College 51-22 in their next contest, a 104-59 blowout on Saturday. They are now 6-0 in conference play this year, extending their conference winning streak to an astounding 70 games. Bryan will look to improve to 10-0 overall on the season in a match-up at Brenau on Wednesday evening, 


JUCO: Jeremy Thompson – Monroe College – Bronx

JeremyThompsonHeadshot Coach Thompson’s 4th-ranked Express won a pair of contests in dominating fashion this week, remaining undefeated on the season. Monroe hosted UConn – Avery Point on Tuesday, using a 20-2 second quarter run to jump out to a big lead on the way to a 78-50 victory. Returning to action on Saturday, the Express held Orange County Community College to just seven first half points in a 57-28 triumph. Monroe has been stifling opponents all season, as it is holding opponents to just 39.6 points per game while forcing nearly 30 turnovers per contest so far this year. The Express will look to move to 9-0 when they take on Springfield Technical Community College at 6 PM tonight.
