Niagara women’s basketball head coach Tiara Johnson announced the hiring of Dr. Jazmone Turner as assistant coach/director of player development and engagement. for the women’s basketball program.
“Dr. Jazmone Turner embodies everything we were looking for in a coach and mentor.”, Johnson said, “She is authentic, competitive, and deeply committed to helping young women reach their full potential. Her experience leading a Division I program gives our staff another valuable perspective, and her passion for teaching, recruiting, and relationship building perfectly complements the vision we have for Niagara Women’s Basketball. We are excited to welcome her and her family to the Purple Eagle community.”
Turner spent the last three seasons at Delaware State University, including two as head coach from March 2024 to April 2026. She was promoted to the position after serving as interim head coach during the 2023-24 season.
In her tenure as head coach, Turner recruited 13 new student-athletes in order to reshape the roster, and also played a role in getting the Delaware State team into the top-five ranks in many statistics categories in the conference. Her team was among the top 30 teams in the country in bench scoring in the 2025-26 season.
Her coaching experience includes being an associate head coach at Coppin State University from 2017 to 2020 and an assistant coach at Indiana State University for the 2020-21 season. She has coached various All-Conference, All-Rookie, and All-American players in the MEAC, Ohio Valley Conference and the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. She has also coached various student athletes who signed up as professionals in Norway and Spain.

Turner received her Doctor of Education degree in Educational Leadership at Delaware State University in 2026. Other academic degrees include her Master of Business Administration degree in Professional Sports Administration from Ohio University, her Master of Education degree in Curriculum & Instruction from Ohio Valley University, and her Bachelor of Science degree in Health & Physical Education from Muskingum University.
