Week 13: WHoopDirt.com Coach of the Week presented by Pivot Analysis

Congratulations to the following coaches who have been selected as the Week 13 WHoopDirt.com Coach of the Week presented by Pivot Analysis. These coaches are now eligible to receive the WHoopDirt.com National Coach of the Year Award presented by Pivot Analysis which will be announced at the conclusion of the 2019-20 college basketball season.

NCAA DI: Heather Oesterle – Central Michigan University

Oesterle_HeatherWith two more wins this week, Coach Oesterle’s Chippewas have now won 18 of their last 19 games and remain unbeaten in the MAC. On Wednesday, Central Michigan used a big first quarter to come away with a 66-60 home victory over Northern Illinois. A 99-87 road triumph over Miami (OH) on Saturday that saw the Chippewas put up 37 points in the third quarter and marked CMU’s 10th straight win. Now 18-4 (11-0 MAC) on the season, Central Michigan holds a three-game lead in the conference standings. They are back in action on Saturday when they take on Bowling Green at home.

 


NCAA DII: AnnMarie Gilbert – Virginia Union University

Coach Gilbert led Virginia Union to two dominant wins this week as the Lady Panthers improved to 18-3 on the season. A 25-7 first quarter set the tone for the 14th ranked (WBCA Coaches’ Poll) Lady Panthers on Monday, as they took a 78-49 victory over Saint Augustine’s. In their next matchup, Virginia Union trailed 11-7 after the first quarter before going on a 69-30 run in the remaining 30 minutes to come away with a 76-41 triumph over Elizabeth City State. These two conference victories moved the Lady Panthers to 9-2 in the CIAA. They were back in action on Monday against Livingstone, picking up conference win No. 10 with a 69-56 victory.


NCAA DIII: Cameron Hill – Trinity University (TX)

A pair of conference victories this week improved Coach Hill’s squad to 13-1 in the SCAC. On Friday night, the 14th ranked Tigers led Dallas by a score of 85-25 entering the fourth quarter before taking a 94-36 victory. Trinity faced a much tougher challenge on Saturday, as they hosted No. 19 Austin, who entered the matchup at 17-2 on the season. The Tigers defeated the visitors for the second time this season, winning 87-79. Now 18-3 overall on the season, Trinity will look for their fourth straight win when they travel to take on Johnson & Wales (Denver) on Friday.


NAIA: Irvin Jerry – Trinity International University

Coach Jerry guided the Lady Trojans to two impressive road victories this week as Trinity International extended their winning streak to four. TIU held Judson to just 23% from the field in a dominant 82-38 win on Wednesday night to pick up their 15th win of the season. On Saturday, the Lady Trojans held off a late comeback attempt by Roosevelt, hanging on for a 78-77 triumph. Now 16-10 (10-8 CCAC) on the season, Trinity International will host 8th ranked Saint Xavier University on Wednesday.


JUCO: Jay Hanley – Bristol Community College

Jay HanleyIn his first season at the helm of Bristol Community College, Coach Hanley has already led the Bayhawks to the most wins in program history. This week, an 80-46 victory at Holyoke CC and a 103-31 triumph at home over Quinsigamond CC marked Bristol’s 11th and 12th victories of the season – surpassing 2013’s previous record of 11. Coach Hanley’s turnaround of the program in his first season has been remarkable, as just last year the Bayhawks went 1-20 (with the only victory coming as a result of a forfeit) and averaged only 29.4 points per game. Now 12-7 on the season, Coach Hanley’s squad will look to further their success this season when they take on Springfield Technical CC this evening.
