Head Coach Angie Nelp of the Golden Hurricane women’s basketball team has announced the promotion of two staff members for the 2025-26 season. Doug Brotherton has been elevated to Associate Head Coach, and Maya Mayberry will serve as the Director of Operations.
“Doug has been an integral part of our program’s success on and off the court,” said Nelp. “His hard work, dedication, and impact on our student-athletes are unparalleled. I’m excited for our team’s continued growth with Doug in this new role.”
Brotherton has been a key component of Nelp’s staff for each of her four seasons at TU, serving as coordinator of player development in 2021-22 and working as an assistant coach for the last three seasons.
“I’d like to thank Coach Nelp and our administration for the continued support and for providing me with further opportunities to grow in my career,” said Brotherton. “Our family loves the Tulsa community, and it is an honor to work at such a prestigious university. We could not be more excited about continuing this journey.
“Coach Nelp is an elite person who has built a program rooted in family values. Her leadership will continue to elevate our program, and it is exciting to be a part of that. The past four years have been full of amazing people, special moments and making history. I’m looking forward to helping build on this foundation as we continue to positively impact the lives of our student-athletes, compete for championships and serve our community!”
During Brotherton’s tenure at Tulsa, the Hurricane has averaged 19 wins per season for 76 total victories and has earned three bids for postseason play, including the 2022 WNIT, 2024 WBIT and this past season’s 2025 WNIT.
While at Tulsa, Brotherton has helped coach two All-Americans, two WBCA Region 3 Finalists, one American Athletic Conference Player of the Year, one AAC Ambassador Award honoree, one AAC Most Improved Player of the Year, one AAC Freshman of the Year, five All-Conference players and four All-Freshman student-athletes.
For the last two seasons, Mayberry served as the Hurricane’s director of player development and spent the prior three seasons as a player for TU (2020-23), the final two of which were under Nelp.
“Maya’s leadership continues to help elevate our program,” Nelp said. “She brings a genuine passion and dedication to supporting the growth and success of our student-athletes. Her investment in the care our players make her not only an invaluable member of our team, but also the ideal person to take on this important role.”
“I’m excited to step into this new role and ready to continue working alongside such a great team,” Mayberry said. “I’m grateful and looking forward to the opportunities ahead!”
Mayberry helped Tulsa All-American and four-year letterwinner Delanie Crawford surpass 200 community service hours at TU. The American took notice and awarded Crawford the prestigious Ambassador Award this past season, the same honor Mayberry took home in 2023.
As a three-year letterwinner, Mayberry started in 72 games, averaging 12.2 points (875) and 2.5 rebounds (181), and was a Third Team All-Conference pick in 2021.
