Shelley Pennington and Friends Head Coach Lindsay Edmonds has announced the promotion of Nick Grant to the Rice Women’s Basketball Associate Head Coach ahead of the 2026-27 season. Grant has been an assistant coach since joining Edmonds’ initial staff during the 2021-22 season.

“I am so excited to announce Nick Grant as our Associate Head Coach,” Edmonds said. “This promotion is a testament to the tremendous impact that he has on our program every single day. His dedication to our student-athletes and our program, his exceptional recruiting efforts, his ability to build genuine relationships and his unwavering commitment to excellence make him an outstanding coach and mentor. Nick has been an invaluable part of our success, someone that I have leaned on heavily over the last five years, and Rice Women’s Basketball is very blessed to have him. This promotion is a well-earned recognition for his leadership, love and work that he pours into our program daily.”

Grant enters his sixth season with the Owls, with Rice coming off one of the greatest seasons in program history with a program record 29 wins. The Owls had a 22-game win streak, another program record, en route to the American Conference regular-season title.

Grant has recently developed Hailey Adams into one of the game’s best, earning a spot on the All-Conference Defensive Team after recording the second-most rebounds in a season in program history last season. Adams ranks in the Rice top 10 in single-season rebounds (375), single-season blocks (57), career rebounds (751), and career blocks (103).

Grant also helped develop Malia Fisher, who earned numerous All-Conference accolades, including All-Conference First Team and Tournament MVP honors. Fisher helped guide the Owls to the first-ever American Conference title in Rice Athletics history during the 2023-24 season.
