Syracuse promotes Solice

Syracuse women’s basketball head coach Quentin Hillsman has announced the appointment of Cedric Solice to assistant coach on his staff, transitioning from director of basketball operations/assistant strength coach, a position he held for three years. Solice is in his seventh season overall on head coach Hillsman’s staff.

"I am truly excited and feel very blessed to have the opportunity to move into this new role with this fantastic women’s basketball program at Syracuse University," Solice said. "Having the opportunity to coach under Coach Hillsman and continue to learn from him every day is a privilege and honor. I look forward to continue working with our great student-athletes and staff as we move forward in achieving our conference and NCAA goals."

As assistant coach, Solice’s responsibilities include recruiting, assisting in game-planning and coordinating practice planning.

"Cedric has been a tireless worker in our program from day one," Hillsman said. "This is a well-deserved opportunity."

Solice was named the director of basketball operations/assistant strength coach in the fall of 2009. In that role, he was responsible for keeping all of the moving parts of a major Division I program organized, including serving as a liaison between the administration and coaching staff, monitoring player class and study table attendance, coordinating team travel, directing summer camps, managing equipment, assisting in organizing film exchange and supervising the managerial staff and its duties at practice.

Solice joined the Syracuse University women’s basketball staff in 2006 as a graduate manager. In that role he was responsible for assisting the coaching staff with all aspects of practice, including helping players with individual workouts. In addition, he also handled several minor administrative needs of the coaching staff and facilitated the setup and breakdown of all practices.

In the fall of 2008 Solice was awarded a graduate assistantship which allowed him to continue his above assigned duties.

Prior to coming to Syracuse, Solice was the varsity assistant boys’ coach at Randolph-Macon Academy in Front Royal, Va. during the 2005-06 season in which Randolph-Mason went 19-4 en route to a regular season championship. He was also part of the Charleston Lowgators of the National Basketball Developmental League as a practice player and a game-time coaching staff assistant from 2001-04. The Lowgators made the NBDL final three consecutive years, accumulating the highest winning percentage of any NBDL team during Solice’s tenure as a member of the organization.
