A familiar face is returning to the sidelines at Ranger College, as former head coach Bill Foy has been named head coach of the Rangers women’s basketball program.
Foy returns to Ranger College after previously leading the women’s basketball program for four seasons. “I’m excited to be back at Ranger College and to have the opportunity to lead this program again,” Foy said. “I have a lot of great memories from my time here, and I’m looking forward to getting to work with our players and preparing for the upcoming season.”
Ranger College Athletic Director Scott Norwood said bringing Foy back provides the program with a proven coach whose résumé and reputation speak for themselves. “We’re extremely excited to have Coach Foy back at Ranger College,” Norwood said. “His reputation, professionalism and coaching ability are exemplary, and his history of success speaks for itself. Bill has been successful everywhere he has been, and we know firsthand the kind of coach and person he is. We’re fortunate to have someone with his experience and track record leading our women’s basketball program.”
Foy originally arrived at Ranger College in 2015 as the head men’s and women’s golf coach and an assistant men’s basketball coach before taking over a struggling women’s basketball program in 2016. His impact was immediate. In his first season at the helm, the Rangers finished third in conference and earned a berth in the Region V Tournament. Success continued throughout his four-year tenure, as Ranger posted an 80-43 overall record and advanced to the regional tournament in three of his four seasons.
Foy also enjoyed success in his other roles at Ranger College. Under his leadership, the men’s golf program qualified for the NJCAA National Tournament for the first time in school history. As an assistant with the Ranger men’s basketball program, Foy was part of a team that advanced to the NJCAA Division I National Tournament semifinals in Hutchinson, Kansas.
Foy returns to Ranger College following his second stint as head men’s basketball coach at Paris Junior College, where he added to an already distinguished coaching career.
His first tenure at Paris was highlighted by the Dragons’ 2005 NJCAA Division I National Championship. Following the championship season, Foy was named National Coach of the Year by both the NJCAA and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Across 16 seasons as the Dragons’ head coach, Foy compiled a 302-193 record.
Between his two stints at Paris, Foy served as an assistant men’s basketball coach at the University of North Texas. During his time with the Mean Green, North Texas compiled a 127-68 record and made two appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
Foy later served as the head men’s basketball coach at Dallas College Richland, where he guided the program to a 46-18 record before coming to Ranger in 2015.
Now, Foy returns to Ranger College and to a women’s basketball program with which he has already enjoyed considerable success.
Foy earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana University and his master’s degree from Prairie View A&M University. He is the proud father of two daughters, Sydney and Bailey, both of whom are married, and grandfather to two-year-old Braelon.
