Otero Junior College names new Head Women’s Basketball Coach

Sta’Nisha Hersey will be joining the Otero Junior College team as the new Women’s Basketball Coach for the 2018-19 year. Her most recent coaching experience was at Dodge City Community College where she spent the last three years helping coach, recruit and train student athletes. She assisted in obtaining a 17-14 overall record the first year. Hersey worked on guard player development during practice and off-season workouts. While at Dodge City Community College and working under Zach Loll, four-time former region 24 Great Rivers Athletic Conference (GRAC) Coach of the Year, she was part of a basketball program that accomplished the most wins in the conference over a ten-year period.

Hersey also has coaching experience from the University of Southern Mississippi and Fort Scott Community College and playing experience at Garden City Community College and Pittsburg State University. Hersey has a proven track record and is known for mentoring young women both off and on the court. Hersey, originally from Shawnee, Kan., is married with a newborn. She has a bachelor’s degree from Pittsburg State University and a master’s degree from the University of Southern Mississippi.

“We are thrilled to welcome Coach Hersey to OJC.” Gary Addington, OJC athletic director said. “She will be an asset to the program bringing great coaching experience and knowledge with her.”

Hersey’s goals for OJC’s women’s basketball program includes: Finishing the season with a team GPA of 3.35; finishing top 4 in Region 9 south; hosting the first round of Region 9 playoffs; having every player graduate with an associate degree; and making it to the NJCAA tournament.

“I am beyond excited to be coming to Otero and leading the Women’s Basketball program.” Hersey said.
