Brandeis University’s women’s basketball team, Carol Simon, is retiring, according to the Boston Globe.
Simon sat out last season after being placed on administrative leave following allegations that she had violated Brandeis University policies.
The veteran head coach was reinstated earlier this spring, which led to backlash from current team members. On April 19th, the Boston Globe reported that the 11 returning players wrote a letter to Simon telling her that they will not play next season if she is the coach.
The players cited allegations of racism and team management issues as some of the concerns regarding Simon in their letter, according to the Globe.
Simon had spent the past 35-seasons at Brandeis, where she went 469-419 (.528). She has struggled in recent years however, not having a winning record since 2014-15 and averaging just 8.75 wins/season in her last four years.
