Week 10: WHoopDirt.com Coach of the Week presented by Pivot Analysis

Congratulations to the following coaches who have been selected as the Week 10 WHoopDirt.com Coach of the Week presented by Pivot Analysis. These coaches are now eligible to receive the WHoopDirt.com National Coach of the Year Award presented by Pivot Analysis which will be announced at the conclusion of the 2019-20 college basketball season.

The Week 10 winners are:


NCAA DI: Kelly Graves – University of Oregon

Graves, KellyCoach Graves guided No. 6 Oregon to two huge victories this week, including a blowout over a top three opponent. The Ducks hosted third-ranked Stanford on Thursday night and actually trailed entering the second quarter before coming away with a dominant 87-55 victory. The game marked the second straight top-25 win for the Ducks, as they had previously taken down No. 18 Arizona last Sunday. Oregon stayed hot on Sunday, defeating Cal 105-55 for their third 50+ point victory of the season. Just having been named the No. 4 team in the country in the latest AP Poll, the 15-2 (5-1 Pac-12) Ducks are back in action at home against No. 7 Oregon State on Friday.


NCAA DII: James Rice – Benedict College (SC)

Two more road victories this week made it 10 consecutive wins for Coach Rice and No. 21 Benedict. On Monday, the Lady Tigers used a 21-0 run between the first and second quarters to take an 80-61 triumph over Allen. Benedict next traveled to take on Fayetteville State on Saturday afternoon. Trailing by three entering the fourth quarter, the Lady Tigers fought back late and came away with a hard-fought 56-55 victory. Now 15-2 (7-1 SIAC) on the season, Benedict played Albany State in a conference showdown on Monday night.

NCAA DIII: Jennifer Reimer – Case Western Reserve University

Jennifer ReimerCoach Reimer’s squad picked up two huge victories this week, extending their winning streak to six. Trailing by two against Washington University with 5.3 seconds remaining on Friday, the Spartans converted a three-point play to take the lead and come away with a 74-73 win. The victory was just the second ever against WashU in program history. The schedule did not let up for Case Western, as they hosted No. 14 Chicago, who was riding a 10-game winning streak, on Sunday afternoon. The game featured multiple lead changes in the fourth quarter, but the Spartans were able to hold on at the end for a 77-71 victory. These two wins improved Case Western to 8-6 (3-0 UAA) on the season. They will look to make it seven straight when they travel to take on Rochester on Friday.


NAIA: Bo Overton – Oklahoma City University

Bo OvertonOklahoma City picked up three more blowout wins this week to remain unbeaten on the season. The 2nd ranked Stars opened the week with a 69-42 victory over Southwestern Christian. They won by even more in their next contest, taking down Bacone by a score of 95-36. The Stars finished the week with a road matchup against conference foe John Brown on Saturday. Oklahoma City came away still undefeated, having taken a 76-61 triumph to move to 16-0 (8-0 SAC). They will look to make it 17-0 in another road matchup against USAO on Thursday.


JUCO: Dave Kragel – Walters State Community College

Dave KragelIt was a milestone week for Coach Kragel, as he picked up his 1000th career victory on Wednesday. In a 96-66 road victory over Roane State, Coach Kragel became the first women’s coach in NJCAA history to reach the 1,000 win mark. This is Kragel’s 43rd season at Walters State, and all of his wins have come with the Lady Senators. After this milestone victory, Walters State defeated Jackson State 74-59 for their 55th straight conference win. They are 12-7 on the season and a perfect 9-0 in TCCAA action. Coach Kragel will try for win No. 1,002 at home against Chattanooga State on Wednesday.
