ASA Miami athletic director Ken Wilcox has hired Roy Mabrey to become the new women’s basketball coach.
Mabrey is a Belmar, New Jersey native who has deep basketball roots all across the northeast. In 2016 he was an assistant at Mater Dei Prep for the boy’s basketball program in Middletown, New Jersey. During the summers of 2015 and 2016, Mabrey was the head AAU girls basketball coach of the Exodus Nike sponsored team while also coaching the boy’s team at Wall High School in Township, NJ. The New Jersey native is also a partner of the Mabrey Basketball Academy “MBA” in Belmar. MBA Basketball Academy is a family-run business teaching beginner and experienced basketball players – both boys and girls – the fundamentals of basketball.
Mabrey graduated from St. Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire and was a member of the men’s basketball team there. He would start all 114 games that he played in while averaging 16.4 points per game during his four-year career. Mabrey was named to the Northeast-10 All-Conference Second Team in 2014-15 and Third Team in 2013-2014. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in natural science. Mabrey prepped at Christian Brothers Academy and St. Thomas More School and was named to the All-State team.
