Mississippi College officially announces Rachel Travis as the new leader of its women’s basketball program.
A seasoned coach with over a decade of experience at both the collegiate and high school levels, Travis brings a proven track record of competitive excellence, player development, and high-energy leadership to the Choctaws.
Travis most recently served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Tulsa, where she helped lead the Golden Hurricane to a 17-15 overall record and a berth in the 2025 WNIT.
“What a gift—I am honored to be named head women’s basketball coach at Mississippi College,” said Travis. “Deep thanks to the search committee, (MC Athletic Director) Kenny Bizot, (Associate Athletic Director) Susan Musselwhite, and President Blake Thompson for their belief in me. I am grateful to Greg Long and his staff for their work over the past five seasons. To my mentors, colleagues, players, family, and friends—thank you for your support. God has truly blessed me. To our team—thank you for the warm welcome. I am excited to begin this next chapter with you all and this incredible community.”
Her previous collegiate coaching stops include impactful tenures at Austin Peay State University, University of South Alabama—where she was promoted to associate head coach—and Longwood University. Across these programs, Travis established herself as a relentless recruiter and a mentor dedicated to helping student-athletes thrive both on and off the court.
At the high school level, Travis served as a program director and varsity head coach at both Eagle Point High School in Oregon and the Florida Air Academy in Melbourne, Fla., with multiple players earning all-conference honors and breaking school records under her leadership.
“We are thrilled to welcome Rachel to the Mississippi College family,” Bizot said. “Her energy and enthusiasm are contagious, and her connections across the country make her a dynamic recruiter. She has a clear vision for building a championship-caliber program that reflects the values of our university.”
Travis is a graduate of Northwest University in Kirkland, Wash., where she was a standout student-athlete and team captain.
She succeeds Long, who guided the program for the past five seasons—earning three Gulf South Conference Tournament appearances—before leaving for the College of Charleston. Mississippi College finished last season with a 15-14 overall record—tying the most wins since the program returned to Division II.
