Taleya Mayberry Named Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Tulsa

Former Tulsa women’s basketball standout Taleya Mayberry returns to the program as an assistant coach, as announced today by Head Coach Matilda Mossman.

“We are so excited that one of the best to ever wear a Tulsa uniform is coming home,” Mossman said.  “Teams become great when their best player is their hardest worker.  This certainly describes Taleya Mayberry.  As a player, Taleya was always the first to arrive and the last to leave. We expect that same mentality and work ethic as a member of our staff.  The thing that means the most is that Taleya wants to come home and she wants to give back.  Taleya’s experiences as a student-athlete and a professional basketball player will serve her well as she leads and mentors the members of our basketball team.”

A four-year letterwinner (2009-13), Mayberry had 86 double-digit scoring games, and averaged 15.2 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.  She concluded her career with 1,752 points for second on the all-time list, while also finishing second in field goals made (596) and assists (377), third in three-point field goals made (159) and steals (269), fourth in free throws made (391), sixth in points per game (15.2), and 10th in games played (114).

A native of Tulsa and Booker T. Washington High School, Mayberry previously served as a graduate assistant for the Oral Roberts women’s basketball team.  At ORU, she performed data analysis of players and opponents, provided on-the-court support and training, and conducted various administrative functions for the team.

Prior to Oral Roberts, Mayberry was a professional basketball player for three years, playing for teams in China, Germany, Bulgaria and Iceland.

Mayberry earned her bachelor’s degree from Tulsa in 2013 and her master’s degree from Oral Roberts in 2018.

Mayberry fills the position vacated by Tari Cummings who was named as the Head Coach at Arkansas-Fort Smith earlier this summer.
