Sydney Jones added to Stonehill Women’s Basketball Staff

Stonehill College women’s basketball head coach Trisha Brown announced the addition of Sydney Jones as an assistant coach ahead of the 2025-26 season.

“We are thrilled to have Sydney Jones join the Stonehill Women’s Basketball family,” said Coach Brown. “She has been a proven winner at every level. Coming off an All-American career at Bowdoin, Sydney knows exactly what goes into being a successful college student-athlete. She was a tremendous leader and a coach on the floor for the nationally ranked Polar Bears. She is a phenomenal addition to our staff, and I do not doubt the positive impact she will have in all aspects of our program.”

This will be Jones’ first coaching stop after graduating from Bowdoin College in May. Jones was a four-year member of the Bowdoin women’s basketball team, putting together one of the most impressive careers in Polar Bear history. Spending her final two seasons as team captain, Jones was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) in 2024 and 2025. She became the first student-athlete in NESCAC history to win back-to-back Player of the Year honors. Jones is one of three women’s basketball players in NESCAC history to win the award twice.

In both 2024 and 2025, Jones was named a WBCA Division III First Team All-American, becoming the second Polar Bear to earn two First Team All-American nods. Jones ended her career at Bowdoin as the fourth-leading scorer in program history with 1,595 points and is the only player in program history to score 1,500 points, grab 600 rebounds, total 300 assists, and rack up 200 steals in a career.

In her senior campaign this past year, she averaged a career-high 16.4 points per game, along with 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and a career-best 78 steals, as Bowdoin won its second consecutive NESCAC title. The team then advanced to the NCAA Division III Sweet Sixteen, finishing the year with a 29-1 record. Jones was also named the NEWBA Player of the Year and D3hoops.com Region I Player of the Year following the Polar Bears’ tournament run.

During the offseason at Bowdoin, Jones spent time working with the Boston Celtics as a Basketball Operations Analysis Intern, analyzing player data used by coaches, scouts, and managers. She also has experience working as a camp counselor at the Boston University men’s basketball camps, coaching youth basketball players in the developmental stage of the sport. In May, Jones graduated from Bowdoin with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics and Computer Science.

Stonehill women’s basketball will enter the 2025-26 campaign coming off its best run at the Division I level this past season, finishing runner-up in the NEC before securing a bid in the WNIT.
