Stewart Named Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Amherst College

The Amherst College Department of Athletics announced the recent hiring of Victoria Stewart as an assistant on the women’s basketball coaching staff.

A native of Amherst, Mass., Stewart brings a wealth of experience to the Purple & White. Captaining the team during her junior and senior seasons, Stewart was a four-year member of the women’s basketball team at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst while acting as a team representative for the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) for three years.

Prior to UMass-Amherst, Stewart was a four year letter-winner at Amherst-Pelham Regional High School and was named to the Hampshire Gazette First Team and earned a Franklin-Hampshire County All-Star nod while averaging 11.9 points, 6.3 assists and 3.2 steals per game during her senior season.

In addition to having coached a number of basketball camps in clinics across New England, Stewart is a seasoned coach in the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU); most recently guiding her team to an AAU National Tournament appearance.

“I am excited to join the Amherst women’s basketball program and I look forward to learning the ways Coach Gromacki runs such a successful program, while adding in my knowledge of the game as well,” commented Stewart. “Being a part of such a prestigious college that is strong both academically and athletically is a bonus, and I look forward to coaching players who are driven both on and off the court.”

Stewart graduated in May 2016 from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology with a minor in Education.
