Kansas City Women’s Basketball and Head Coach Candi Whitaker have officially announced the hiring of Park Shogren as Assistant Coach. Shogren will bring head coaching experience and time spent in the Summit League to the Roos’ sidelines in 2026-27.
“I am absolutely thrilled to join the women’s basketball staff at Kansas City under Coach Whitaker,” Shogren said. “The opportunity to grow and contribute under a proven winner like Coach Whitaker is an incredible honor. I am especially excited to remain in the Summit League, which consistently showcases such incredible basketball. The energy here is unmatched – the city, the athletic department and our staff have been so welcoming and wonderful from day one. I am so proud to be a part of the homecoming for Coach Whitaker, who brings such a storied coaching career back to this institution, and I can’t wait to see what we can accomplish together.”
Shogren’s most recent stop was at St. Thomas during the 2025-26 season, where she served as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. The Tommies ended the season with a 16-16 record, earning the program’s first-ever conference tournament quarterfinal win in Division I. She was critical in the development of Alyssa Sand, who ended the season with First Team All-Summit League, All-Defensive Team and All-Tournament Team honors and helped a signing class filled with top area talent.
“Park will bring a wealth of knowledge to our sidelines. She’s a hard worker, incredibly bright and will be a huge asset to our team,” Head Coach Candi Whitaker said. “Her resume speaks for itself with a successful head coaching tenure at the JuCo level and familiarity with what it takes to win in the Summit League. We are so happy that she is a Roo.”
Prior to St. Thomas, Shogren spent a season as assistant coach, director of player development and video coordinator at the University of San Diego. She aided with scouting, guard development and recruitment during her lone year with the Toreros.
Shogren was the head coach at the North Dakota State College of Science from 2022-24, also serving as the Director of Athletic Fundraising, Marketing and Promotion. She put together two of the most successful seasons in program history, qualifying to back-to-back NJCAA National Tournament Round of 16 appearances. The Wildcats went 58-12 across her two seasons at the helm, winning the 2023 conference title as well as region and district titles in both 2023 and 2024. She was named twice named Coach of the Year in the North Central District and Region XIII, winning Mon-Dak Athletic Conference Coach of the Year honors in 2023.
She has a proven knack for recruiting and player development, as shown by her success at NDSCS. She coached four NJCAA All-Americans, 10 All-Region XII Athletes and 12 All-Mon-Dak Athletes. Six of her student-athletes went on to play at the Division I level, including Ivane Tensaie, who went on to become an All-CUSA honoree during her career at UTEP.
Prior to her tenure as head coach, Shogren was an assistant coach at NDSCS in 2021-22.
Shogren spent her collegiate career at Macalester College, making 68 starts across her four-year career. She graduated with a degree in biology in 2017.
Originally from Poway, Calif., Shogren attended Poway High School, graduating in 2013.
She currently lives in Overland Park, Kan. with her husband Thomas, who was a former baseball player and coach at Macalester.
