Santa Fe resigns as WBB Head Coach at Regis College (MA)

Angela Santa Fe, the head coach of the Regis College women’s basketball team for the past eight years, has announced her resignation from the position effective August 13, 2021.

Santa Fe will take over as Director of the Northeast Region with Select Events, a national basketball event operator within 3STEP Sports.

In seven competition seasons at the helm of the Pride, Santa Fe compiled an overall record of 132-60 (.688), the second-most victories in program history. In conference play, her teams won almost 90 percent of their games (99-12), including the final 78 contests in the program’s 118-conference game winning streak that remains an NCAA Division III record.

Under Santa Fe’s tutelage, the Pride won four straight New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Tournaments from 2014 to 2017, earning a berth in the NCAA Tournament each time. After Regis moved into the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), Santa Fe led her team to three consecutive GNAC Tournaments, advancing to the semifinals in 2020.

Santa Fe was voted NECC Coach of the Year on three occasions (2014, 2015, and 2016) as well as GNAC Coach of the Year in 2020. She coached two NECC Player of the Year selections and two conference Rookie of the Year honorees as she saw her players accumulate 13 all-conference awards and 36 academic all-league honors.

“It has been an honor and privilege to serve as the head women’s basketball coach here at Regis College. I am fortunate to be departing with so many relationships and memories that I will be forever grateful for,” Santa Fe said. “Thank you to the incredible women who make the culture of the program a family. I’m so fortunate to be a part of each of your lives. I wish nothing but the best for continued success of the program along with the Regis community.”

Besides her coaching duties, Santa Fe also served as the advisor for the Regis Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, helping facilitate communication between the student-athlete representatives and the athletic administration. She also taught a co-curricular course along with Assistant Athletic Director Laura Violette entitled Peer and Captain Leadership for student-athletes who strive for leadership positions within their athletic programs and in the campus community.

Santa Fe ascended to the head coach position after two seasons as the Pride’s assistant coach, helping guide the team to its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 17 years in 2013. Prior to Regis, she spent a year as an assistant coach at her alma mater Southern Maine, where as a player she helped the Huskies to three straight NCAA Tournament berths, including an appearance in the 2006 championship game.
