Robbins joins Johns Hopkins WBB coaching staff

Kayla Robbins will join the Johns Hopkins women’s basketball coaching staff, it was announced by head coach Katherine Bixby earlier this week. Robbins joins the staff after spending the last four seasons as a member of the Michigan women’s basketball team.

“I am thrilled to welcome Kayla Robbins to our Johns Hopkins Women’s Basketball family. Throughout the course of an extremely competitive interview process it became clear that Kayla was a great fit for our program”, Bixby said. “In addition to our program’s commitment to our student-athletes, I look forward to Kayla contributing to the recruitment of elite prospects as we continue our journey towards championship basketball.”

Robbins, a 2020 graduate, was a four-year varsity letter winner, appearing in 119 games during her time as a Wolverine. A one-year starter, Robbins contributed 610 points and 364 rebounds over her Michigan career. The Mitchellville, MD-native was named a team captain in 2019-20 after spending her first three seasons as a key reserve. The Wolverines posted a record of 94-42 during Robbins’ career.

Bixby believes that Robbins’ recent experience as a Division I athlete at the University of Michigan would harmonize with their commitment to developing student-athletes. More specifically, Bixby believes Robbins has demonstrated the ability to immediately contribute to the growth of the Blue Jay post players.

A decorated prep player at St. John’s College High School, Robbins will return to her home state. The two-time captain earned District of Columbia Athletic Association Basketball Player of the Year honors in 2016 and led her team to the DC City Championships where she was named MVP.

Robbins has always managed to make an impact both on and off-the-floor. She was a member of Women Uplifting Women, a group mentoring other female student-athletes to encourage them to be powerful women in their work field. Robbins also spent time as a Youth Camp Counselor and has volunteered in both the D.C. and Ann Arbor communities.
