Providence College women’s basketball Head Coach Erin Batth announced that Elissa Cunane has joined her staff as an assistant coach.
“I couldn’t be more excited to have Elissa join our staff,” Batth said. “She has incredible energy and an unmatched work ethic. She knows me very well from our time together at NC State. I’m looking forward to her working closely with our post players. However, she also will be able to help relay to our entire group what it takes to be a champion and the work that it takes to elevate to the professional ranks. Elissa’s basketball IQ is exceptional, and she knows the ins and outs of primary offenses and defenses that we’ll be running. She’s the complete package – as she has excelled on the court, in the classroom and in the community.”
Cunane enters the coaching profession after an exceptional playing career at NC State (2018-22) and in the professional ranks. She was a three-time Associated Press and United States Basketball Writers Association All-American with the Wolfpack and a two-time Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player. Additionally, she was a three-time Lisa Leslie Award Top-Five finalist in 2020, 2021 and 2022. As a senior, she was named WBCA All-American, which recognizes the nation’s top 10 players regardless of position.
In four seasons at NC State, the 6-5 center compiled 1,855 points, 986 rebounds, 158 assists and 114 blocked shots. She finished the 2021-22 season as the only center in the nation to shot better than 50-percent from the field overall (.531), 40-percent from three-point territory (.419) and 80-percent from the free throw line (.835).
Batth was and assistant coach at NC State from 2018-22 and was Cunane’s position coach during each of her four seasons with the Wolfpack.
Cunane excelled in the classroom, having earned Co-SIDA Academic All-America accolades in 2021. She also was a three-time All-ACC Academic Team honoree. She graduated Cum Laude in 2022 with a degree in fisheries, wildlife and conservation biology and a minor in business administration.
Upon graduation, Cunane was selected in the second round of the 2022 WNBA Draft by the Seattle Storm with the 17th pick. During her career she also played for the Minnesota Lynx. She played professionally overseas in the Czech Republic for Zabiny Brno Basketball (2022-25).
