Cunningham named Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Butler

Head Coach Maria Marchesano has announced the hiring of Quincy Cunningham as an assistant coach on the Butler women’s basketball staff. Cunningham spent the past four seasons with Marchesano at Purdue Fort Wayne in the same role.

“Quincy is as passionate about the game as anybody, I’ve ever been around,” said Marchesano. “He brings energy and joy to the gym every single day and has had a huge imprint on the player development aspect of our program over the past four years.”

Cunningham served as an assistant coach on Marchesano’s Purdue Fort Wayne staff beginning with the 2023-24 season after first arriving in Fort Wayne in 2022 as a graduate assistant.

In 2025-26, Purdue Fort Wayne made a return trip to the WNIT Super 16 after a 21-14 record. Cunningham helped Alana Nelson to a First Team All-Horizon League nod after leading the Mastodons with 16.5 points per game.

In 2024-25, Purdue Fort Wayne had its best season in program history, going 27-9 and 18-2 in Horizon League play. The Mastodons made it to the Horizon League championship game before earning a WNIT Great 8 berth in the postseason. Cunningham helped Lauren Ross become the first player in NCAA history to lead the country in both 3-point percentage and free throw percentage. She was named Horizon League Newcomer of the Year and earned an All-Horizon League First Team nod.

In 2023-24, the Mastodons advanced to the Horizon League semifinal for the second year in a row and earned a berth to the Women’s National Invitational Tournament. The Mastodons picked up their first-ever WNIT victories en route to a Super 16 berth.

Prior to his time at Purdue Fort Wayne, Cunningham spent the 2021-22 season as a Player Development Assistant for the University of Maryland women’s basketball program. While Cunningham was working with Maryland, the Terrapins went 23-9 and went to the Sweet 16. The Terps also had five wins over AP Top 25 teams. Cunningham assisted in individual player and team on-court workouts, served as a practice player, and assisted in film breakdowns. Maryland spent the entire season in the AP Top 25, climbing as high as No. 2.
