Milwaukee Area Technical College women’s basketball is stepping boldly into a new era, as Athletic Director Randy Casey announced the hiring of Samantha Doucette as the program’s next head coach. Doucette arrives in Milwaukee with a national‑tournament pedigree and a reputation for rapid program building, fresh off an impressive four‑year stretch at Anoka‑Ramsey Community College that vaulted the Golden Rams into the NJCAA’s elite.
Doucette’s resume is as strong as it gets at the junior college level. Over the last four seasons at Anoka‑Ramsey, Doucette had compiled a 92–32 overall record, earned four straight Region 13 Coach of the Year awards, and led the Golden Rams to four consecutive NJCAA Division III National Tournament appearances, including back‑to‑back Final Four runs and a National Runner‑Up finish in 2026. It’s the exact pedigree MATC has been seeking as it looks to elevate the program.
“We are very excited to have Coach Sam Doucette join our athletic staff and department,” Casey said. “She is a proven program builder and a flat‑out winner, and we can’t wait to see where she takes our women’s basketball program.”
Doucette’s teams were known for their discipline and balance on both ends of the floor. Anoka‑Ramsey routinely finished inside the NJCAA’s Top 5 national rankings and never won fewer than 20 games in a season. Under her direction, the Golden Rams captured multiple Region 13 A and 13 B championships and produced numerous All‑Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC), All‑Region and NJCAA All‑America selections.
With that success behind her, Doucette believes the transition to NJCAA Division II and bringing MATC back into national relevance is well within reach.
“In my opinion MATC should have no issue being a top JUCO program nationally just with the talent of women in the surrounding areas — it’s meant to be one of the top programs,” Doucette said. “As far as longevity, I want to be at the top. I come from a lot of winning and having that standard of making the national tournament every year and winning regional championships, and that’s honestly what I’m trying to bring to Milwaukee. I know every time you move up to the next level it’s going to be a little harder, but I really believe in the kids I can bring in, and my coaching staff is awesome. I think we can do some really special things.”
Before becoming a head coach, Doucette built a broad foundation across multiple levels of the game. She spent the 2020–21 season as an assistant at Anoka‑Ramsey, handling weekly scouting reports, film breakdown, practice planning and academic support while serving as a key mentor for a young roster. Her development background extends even further through nearly a decade of AAU coaching with Legacy Hoops, Fury and Team Wisconsin.
She also brings the perspective of a former collegiate two‑guard, having played at The College of Saint Scholastica from 2010–15. At Saint Scholastica, Doucette was a team captain and helped lead the Saints to their first NCAA Tournament appearance.
A native of Colfax, Wisconsin, Doucette grew up around the game. Her father, Joe Doucette, is a Wisconsin Basketball Hall of Fame coach (Colfax High School, 2017 inductee), and her ties to the state played a significant role in her decision to come to Milwaukee. She said her coaching philosophy — centered on relationships, mentorship and building strong women on and off the court — aligns naturally with MATC’s mission and with Casey’s leadership, which she views as a major draw.
“I absolutely adore junior college basketball, and I knew my next move needed to be at a higher level while still staying in JUCO,” Doucette said. “I feel like I got the best of both worlds here at MATC.”
Now part of the Stormers family, Doucette steps into a program eager to raise its competitive ceiling after a 16–15 finish in 2025. Doucette will begin her duties immediately as the Stormers prepare for the 2026–27 season.
