Long Island University Athletics has named Neil Harrow its next Head Women’s Basketball Coach, Director of Athletics Elliott Charles announced on Tuesday. Harrow joins LIU after recent stops at James Madison University and in the WNBA with the Los Angeles Sparks.
In three seasons as the Associate Head Coach at James Madison (2022-2025), Harrow helped the Dukes to three Sun Belt Conference championships and one NCAA Tournament appearance. This past season, JMU posted a 30-6 overall record and an 18-0 conference mark, earning the No. 3 ranking in the mid-major national poll, votes in the national top 25 poll, and the highest NET ranking in program history.
During his time on the staff at JMU, Harrow developed two Sun Belt Player of the Year winners and one WNBA draft pick.
Harrow briefly left JMU in the summer of 2024 to join the Los Angeles Sparks as an assistant coach where he worked with four Olympians and one WNBA all-star. Harrow’s other WNBA experiences include stints as an advanced scout with the Sparks and the Connecticut Sun from 2020-2023.
Prior to James Madison, Harrow served as an assistant coach at Troy University for seven seasons (2015-2022) where he helped the Trojans to five Sun Belt crowns and four NCAA Tournament berths. He was named to the WBCA’s “30 Under 30” list in 2017.
Before Troy, Harrow spent two seasons at Valdosta State University as a graduate assistant (2013-2015) and three seasons coaching the men’s basketball program at B.Q. Martinenc in Barcelona, Spain (2010-2013). As the head coach of the U18 team, Harrow led B.Q. Martinenc to a league championship and posted a 24-2 overall record, turning around a team that finished the prior season 1-27.
“I am beyond excited for the opportunity to be the head coach at LIU,” said Harrow. “There is no better location to draw top domestic and international talent to, and I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and start recruiting. I want to sincerely thank the leadership team at LIU for giving me the chance to lead this program. We will strive for excellence in all that we do and make our fan base proud.”
A native of East Kilbride, Scotland, Harrow earned a master’s degree in education leadership from Valdosta State in 2015. He earned a bachelor’s degree in 2010 from the University of the West of Scotland, where he was also inducted into the school’s athletic hall of fame.
