Kotrozos Named Assistant at Wagner

Wagner College head women’s basketball coach Lisa Cermignano has announced that Michael Kotrozos has joined the Seahawk program as an assistant coach.

A Queens, NY native, Kotrozos has deep ties within New York City collegiate and high school circle, which include stints as an assistant coach at Baruch College and Hunter College. Before joining the Baruch staff prior to the 2014-15 season, Kotrozos served as an assistant for the Hunter men’s and women’s basketball teams. After two seasons (2007-2009) as an assistant with the Hunter men’s basketball team, he combined duties, coaching both the Hawks’ men’s and women’s teams for the next two seasons (2009-11). He was then promoted to associate head coach of the women’s team, which he stayed in for two seasons He remaining in this role throughout the 2012-13 and 2013-14 campaigns.

During his tenure at Hunter, the Hawks played in two CUNYAC Championship Finals and two ECAC Metro Postseason Basketball Tournaments.

The native of Queens, NY brings plenty of coaching experience to the program, most recently at Hunter College where he worked for the men’s and women’s basketball teams. He started at Hunter in 2007 as an assistant with the men’s team and later combined duties with the women’s team during the 2009-11 seasons. He was promoted to Associate Head Coach of the women’s team, where he spent the next three seasons (2011-14).

“I’m thrilled with the addition of Mike to our staff,” said Cermignano. “Over a long period of time, Mike has fostered a host of relationships with a number of high school coaches and players throughout the area. He’s a bright and talented coach on the floor, with great enthusiasm. He is someone who I’m confident will be able to help us to continue to attract top-quality student-athletes her at Wagner.”

During his tenure at Hunter, the Hawks played in two CUNYAC Championship Finals and two ECAC Metro Postseason Basketball Tournaments.

“I’m excited to be a part of the Wagner family and to coach at the Division I level,” Kotrozos said.  “I have a lot of contacts and experience within the New York City metropolitan area. I’m familiar with several players on the current team and have a lot of respect for Lisa (Cermignano) and they way she’s going about building this program. I think this program is ready to make that next move, that next jump, and I’m ecstatic to be a part of it.”

Since 2000, Kotrozos has served as the Director/Administrator at the I.S. 204 Astoria Beacon After School Community Center/ Hellenic American Neighborhood Action Committee (HANAC) Inc. in Long Island City, NY, where his many responsibilities included overseeing staff that services over 1,000 participants in the program.  HANAC is a New York City based, multi-faceted social services organization that has served the needs of vulnerable populations throughout the City since 1972.

The past founder, director and coach of the New York City Lady Warriors AAU program from 2008-12, since 2008 he’s also served in the capacity of administrator/evaluator for BlueStar basketball and the United States Junior Nationals. He became an accredited youth basketball coach with USA Basketball in 2014. From 2002-06, he served as assistant boys & girls coach at I.S. 204 and from 2004-2012 was the director/coach of St. Demetrios of Astoria Church (2004-12).

After attending and competing on the high school basketball team at St. Francis Prep Fresh Meadows, NY, Kotrozos went on to play four years (1993-97) on the men’s basketball team at Baruch,  graduating in 1998 with a degree in psychology.
