John Wood CC hires Koetters as new Women’s Basketball Head Coach

John Wood Community College has named Kelly Koetters as the new head coach of the women’s basketball team. She will also serve as JWCC’s assistant athletic director.

A standout former JWCC student-athlete and experienced collegiate coach, Koetters returns to lead the program where her basketball career first began.

Koetters began her coaching career at JWCC, where she served as assistant women’s basketball coach and assistant softball coach before being named head softball coach in 2008. She continued her coaching journey at Hannibal-LaGrange University in 2011 and most recently held the roles of head women’s basketball coach, senior women’s administrator, and assistant athletic director.

As a student-athlete, Koetters played for the Lady Blazers and was named a National Junior College Athletic Association Academic All-American and a member of the Region 24 All-Tournament Team. She continued her basketball and academic career at Judson University, earning NAIA Academic All-American honors. Koetters holds a master’s degree in kinesiology-sports management and bachelor’s degree in marketing.

“We are excited to welcome Coach Koetters back to lead our women’s basketball program,” said Adam Hightower, JWCC athletic director. “It is always special to hire alumni and her deep connection to JWCC will be valuable on many levels. We are fortunate to have someone with her administrative experience, knowledge of the game, understanding of our area and dedication to student-athlete development guide our team for years to come.”

“I want to thank Coach Hightower and the administration for this opportunity to come back to John Wood Community College,” Koetters said.  “I am excited to get to work and continue the tradition of the women’s basketball program.”
