Jeff Lorenz Named First-ever Head WBB Head Coach at Bryant & Stratton College (WI)

Bryant & Stratton College announced today the hiring of Jeff Lorenz as head women’s basketball coach in Wisconsin for the inaugural 2016-17 season. Lorenz will be an integral part in establishing the women’s basketball program, which will be the only Division II junior college basketball program in the state.

Lorenz is currently the women’s head coach at Milwaukee Area Technical College.  He will coach MATC for the remainder of the season before transitioning to Bryant & Stratton College.

“I’m very excited and look forward to being a leader of the Bryant & Stratton athletics team,” Lorenz said. “The athletic growth opportunity at Bryant & Stratton College is tremendous.  When you look at their long successful history of educating students, which sells itself, student-athletes will want to be part of that success.”

Lorenz is the second head coach to join the Bobcats Athletic Program. Brian Richert was recently named men’s head basketball coach.

Lorenz has been coaching in southeastern Wisconsin for more than a decade on the collegiate, AAU and high school levels.

At MATC, Lorenz and his staff transformed the women’s program since taking over in 2012. Lorenz took over a MATC program that had just one win in two combined seasons. Lorenz has a 65-44 record at MATC including two consecutive 24-win seasons. In 2014-15, MATC went 24-9 finishing the season ranked in the top 10 in the country with the highest national ranking of fifth at the Division III Junior College level.  The 2014-15 team made it to the Region 4 finals but lost to the eventual national champion Rock Valley College (Ill.), a team MATC defeated in the regular season.

Lorenz was selected by his peers as back-to-back N4C Conference Coach of the Year in 2014 and 2015. During Lorenz’s four seasons at MATC, the program produced two All Americans, an N4C Conference Player of the Year, five All-Conference players, four All-Region players and multiple student athletes that received the DIII National Player of the Week recognition.  Lorenz has had several former players that transitioned to play at NCAA and NAIA programs.

“Jeff is going to be a great fit for the Bobcats athletics program,” said Greg Brandner, Bryant & Stratton College Athletic Director. “Jeff’s knowledge of not only basketball but the experience he has recruiting and competing at the college level and in the N4C Conference will be very valuable as we start our inaugural season.”
