Texas A&M International University Women’s Basketball coach Jeff Caha announced the hiring of Hannah Beede on Wednesday. The hiring completes Caha’s staff after adding Assistant Coach Tori Tucker in the spring of 2017.
When Dustdevil fans come to the KCB this year to watch the women’s basketball team compete, they will see a familiar face, only in a different capacity. Miss Hannah Beede, who led the Dustdevils in scoring and rebounding during the 2016-2017 season, has been hired as an assistant coach for the 2017-2018 season.
“Hannah really was a huge help both on and off the court last year. On the court, she was someone that earned my trust and I could bounce things off of her in games due to her basketball knowledge. Off the court, she was very willing to help me learn the ways of TAMIU due to me getting the job so late. I really enjoyed having her around and I am very excited to have her on staff and help her launch her coaching career,” said Caha.
In her two seasons at TAMIU, Beede averaged 10.6 points per game, 6.5 rebounds per game, and connected on 133 made three-point field goals. Beede’s 133 made three-point field goals place her in a tie for 7th All Time.
“When I approached Hannah about the possibility of this last season, we were coming off the worst year in TAMIU history. I presented it as an opportunity to be a part of a culture change and to stick around and see this program turn around into something special. With her ability to demonstrate on the court, be able to instruct because of her knowledge, and fit in with Coach T and I on a daily basis, I was very happy to have her accept and be here to see this program turn around. Her international experience has been and will continue to be a huge help in recruiting and her overall collegiate path to TAMIU is a great story to tell our current players,” said Caha.
“I really enjoyed coaching Hannah and now to help her break into collegiate coaching is a huge sense of pride. I felt as a player she improved not only as the year went on, but her jump from her junior year to her senior year was significant and the stats prove it. That showed that she bought in and listened and tried to do what we asked of her. As a coach, I am really excited to see her growth and development and see how far she can go!”
