Greg McCall Promotes DOBO Ciarra Ford to Assistant Coach at CSU Bakersfield

After serving as CSU Bakersfield’s director of basketball operations for the last three seasons, Ciarra Ford has been promoted to an assistant coaching position by head coach Greg McCall. Prior to joining the CSUB program, Ford spent one season as an assistant coach at Cal State Dominguez Hills.

“Ciarra has done a really good job the past three seasons as our director of operations and is certainly deserving of this promotion,” said McCall on Ford’s appointment.

Ford joins associate head coach Xavier Johnson, and assistant coach Zack Grasmick on McCall’s coaching staff. Her replacement as director of basketball operations has not yet been announced.

“I am definitely excited to be moving my career in the direction I’ve been working towards,” said Ford when asked about the promotion. “Coaching is in high demand with not much availability at this level. I appreciate McCall for considering me and believing in me.”

Before joining the Toros coaching staff ahead of the 2018-19 season, Ford spent two years at Corona Centennial High School. She helped transform an under .500 girls varsity team into a 24-4 overall record squad in her final year with the program (2017-18).

Ford is an alumna of CSU Bakersfield having earned a Criminal Justice degree with a minor in Psychology in 2014 following two seasons under McCall. She was floor general and captain of the squad making an immediate impact in McCall’s early years as head coach.

Ford transferred to CSUB from Mt. Sac Community College, where she played two seasons and earned an associate degree in Kinesiology.

McCall added, “Ciarra is a tireless worker who brings a great deal of experience from an operations, basketball, and academic standpoint, but more importantly she is a very good teacher – growing our athletes as young women.”
