The University at Albany women’s basketball head coach Colleen Mullen has announced the hiring of Nan Garcia as the program’s Assistant Coach/Director of Basketball Operations.
“We are excited to welcome Nan to UAlbany following a standout career at Penn State and Toledo,” said head coach Colleen Mullen. “Her accomplishments as a player have prepared her well for this next step as assistant coach and director of basketball operations. Her energy and enthusiasm are contagious and we are looking forward to the positive impact she will make on our Great Dane program.”
Garcia will be involved in all phases of the day-to-day operations of the women’s basketball office. She will handle office and team budgetary matters, team travel and will assist in the operations of the annual Coach Mullen basketball camp.
“I’m thrilled to be joining Coach Mullen’s staff,” said Garcia. “From the very beginning, she and the entire staff have made me feel incredibly welcomed. What truly stood out to me in the program’s deep commitment to the total development of its student-athletes both on and off the court. Coach Mullen has created a strong, winning culture at UAlbany. I’m excited to have the opportunity to learn from some of the best and help contribute to that continued success.”
Garcia joins the Great Danes’ women’s basketball staff after having graduated with two degrees from Toledo. During her time as a college student, she worked with multiple organizations as a basketball coach – NextPlay’s AAU, Maumee Valley Country Day School, and Central Catholic High School. Garcia also spent time volunteering with Toledo women’s basketball as an intern as well as with two basketball camps – Toledo and Indiana.
A five-year women’s basketball student-athlete, Garcia started her career at Penn State in 2020. She averaged 47.8% from the field, with a .462 three-point percentage from three, in 13 games as a freshman. She was a regular off the bench with 36 total starts, 26 in 2023-24, in four seasons at Toledo. As a fifth year, she was named the MAC Sixth Player of the Year averaging 5.0 rebounds, 8.1 points, 1.2 assists, and 1.0 steals per game while playing 18.2 minutes per game. She was named MAC Academic All-Conference three times.
