Durr Named Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Mohawk Valley CC

Mohawk Valley Community College has appointed Emily C. Durr of Barneveld as head coach/athletic specialist in the Athletics, Physical Education, and Recreation Department. In this position, Durr will perform head coaching duties of the women’s basketball team and other athletic- and academic-related responsibilities.

“We are excited to have one of the most iconic female student-athletes in the history of Central New York join the Hawks family,” said MVCC Athletics Director Gary Broadhurst. “We look forward to Emily relating her extraordinary personal achievements with the young women she will lead, both in the classroom and on the hardwood.”

Durr, a basketball star while at Notre Dame High School in Utica, went on to play NCAA Division I basketball for Iowa State University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology with a concentration in exercise science. While with the Iowa State Cyclones, Durr averaged 8.0 points throughout 122 games. She was 10th in Cyclone history for her free throw percentage of 80.8, and netted 165 three-pointers throughout her career. She played in the NCAA Tournament in 2015 and 2017, and in her senior year led the team in assists and was second in scoring (12.7 points per game). She was named a 2018 Scholar Athlete.

At Notre Dame, Durr was a four-year letter winner and Section 3 all-time leading scorer with 2,445 points. She holds the school records in total points, three-point shots, and free throws; and averaged 22.9 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.8 steals during her high school career. Durr led her team to win the 2014 New York State Championship and Federation Championship for Class B, and was a three-time Tri-Valley Player of the Year and All-Mohawk Valley Player of the Year. She also was a McDonald’s All-American and Gatorade Player of the Year nominee, and the 2014 runner-up for Miss New York Basketball. Most recently, Durr was the assistant coach for the Notre Dame Girls Varsity Basketball team this past season.
