Davenport Signs Three Year Extension at UNO

The University of New Orleans Department of Athletics has extended the contract of Head Women’s Basketball Coach Keeshawn Davenport, Director of Athletics Derek Morel announced Tuesday. The extension will keep Davenport on the Privateers bench through the 2017-2018 season.

“We are encouraged by the progress of our women’s basketball program under Keeshawn’s leadership and expect the program to continue to rise this year and in future seasons,” said Morel. “Because of Coach Davenport’s influence, our women’s basketball student-athletes demonstrate a commitment to high levels of achievement in academics and athletics. That balance along with our community outreach is a foremost priority.”

Davenport, who has been with the Privateer women’s basketball team since the 2003-04 season, brought home four consecutive Southland Conference victories to end the 2014-15 schedule.

“I’m very grateful for Mr. Morel and President Fos for believing in the vision I have for the program and giving me this opportunity to continue to help this program move forward,” said Davenport. “I think they bought in and believed because of how we finished the season and that’s just the foundation. It took a while to lay down the foundation in this rebuilding process and I am expecting great things to happen in these next three years.

“I’ve also got to give credit to my staff and the hard work those young ladies put in as well. I didn’t get this extension by myself. I’m assembling another staff that will hopefully take us to the next level.”

New Orleans, under the leadership of Davenport, continues preparations throughout the summer heading into the 2015-16 campaign.
