Coulson promoted to full-time role at North Alabama

University of North Alabama women’s basketball head coach Missy Tiber has announced the promotion of former UNA player Kenysha Coulson into a full-time assistant coaching role for the Lions.
Lettering from 2017-20, Coulson was a part of a senior class that won more games than any group in program history. The three-year letterman played in 82 games with 60 starts during her career. She scored 648 points, pulled down 458 rebounds and dished out 232 assists.

Following her playing career, Coulson remained with the staff as a graduate assistant for both the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons. Last season, she served as the Director of Operations. Now, she will take on a new responsibility as an assistant coach.

“I am very excited to have Kenysha move up into a coaching assistant role,” says Tiber. “She relates to players on a different level but also as a former player she understands the ins and outs of what we do. She is a great resource for our players and provides a different perspective to the coaching staff. It’s always great to have former players with a desire to pass on their experiences and understanding and witness firsthand her growth as a coach.”

The Huntsville, Ala. native began her college career at Lawson State Community College before transferring to North Alabama as a sophomore in 2017-18. In three seasons with the Lions, Coulson had the unique experience of playing with the Lions in the last season of Division II play and two years into the university’s transition to the full Division I level.

She graduated from UNA in 2020 with a degree in exercise physiology and received her master’s degree in sports management in 2022.

“I am so grateful for the opportunity that Coach Tiber has given me to help coach and mentor young ladies here at UNA,” says Coulson. “It is such an honor to do it at the place that made me into the young woman I am, my alma mater, my second home. Roar Lions!”
