Bongiorno Named Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Harper College

John Bongiorno has been named as the new Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Harper College.  He is replacing Kyle Thomas who has moved on to coach the sophomore boy’s team at Hoffman Estates High School. Coach Bongiorno is a resident of Harper’s District 512 and has been looking for an opportunity to coach near his home so he could dedicate more time and energy to building a successful program.  John has long history of coaching in the area.  He was the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at the College of Lake County from 2017-2022 where his teams achieved their first national ranking in school history in 2018 and had 19 wins in 2019, the most in school history. Prior to Lake County he coached at Maine West High School. He also led the team at Francis Parker High School in Chicago. He won two Region IHSA Championships at Parker with an overall record of 57-25.  He also served as the Head Men’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director at Kendall College in Evanston, IL. Coach Bongiorno is looking forward to coaching at Harper and said  “I want to build the program on four principles 1. Work hard everyday to improve  2. Help make your teammates better. 3. Compete 4. Have fun.”   John is already on the recruiting trail and will be in contact with the players returning from last season.  John will focus on Harper’s excellent athletics facilities and the support for student success on and off the court.
