ASA Miami Announces New Women’s Basketball Coach

ASA Miami athletic director Ken Wilcox announced the hiring of Kevin Johnson to become the new head women’s basketball coach for the Silver Storm.

“Coach Johnson brings a great deal of experience at the junior college level.” Wilcox said. “We believe that his experience at this level and his overall knowledge in the game of basketball will allow this program to compete right away within our region.”

Johnson was the head coach at fellow Region VIII member – Broward College – for four seasons from 2008-2012. During the 2011-2012 season, the Seahawks finished 13-9,  qualifying for the 2012 Region VIII Tournament in Marianna, Florida on the campus of Chipola College. Johnson’s Seahawks finished the season ranked 10th on the 2011-12 FCSAA/Region VIII Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Poll.

The Fort Lauderdale native then made the move to Lynn University in Boca Raton, a NCAA Division II school. Johnson served as an assistant with the Fighting Knights during the 2013-2014 season. The Knights’ season came to an end in the first round of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament. After his time with Lynn, Johnson pursued opportunities as a professor in 2015 with schools such as Johnson & Wales University,  Broward College and ASA College.

Johnson earned his undergraduate in degree Sport and Recreation Management  from Nova Southeastern University and then earned a Master of Science in Sports Administration from St. Thomas University. Johnson is also currently finishing his Doctorate of Business Administration with St. Thomas University.
