Alex Furr Named North Texas Associate Head Coach

Alex Furr has been named associate head coach of North Texas women’s basketball, head coach Jalie Mitchell announced Tuesday. Furr has served the last three seasons as head coach at Panola College in Carthage, Texas, compiling a record of 50-29.
 
“Alex comes highly recommended, she’s been a successful head coach and outstanding recruiter in her career, and will quickly make an impact at UNT”, Mitchell said. “She brings with her an incredible work ethic, drive, toughness, and a belief in both who she is and what we’re building in Denton. Her competitiveness and the values we share make Alex the perfect fit for our staff and program.” 
 
Prior to Panola, she spent three seasons at New Mexico Junior College, working as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. At New Mexico JC she worked with the No. 1 Preseason NJCAA team in the country. The team had the best finish in school history finishing as national runner up at the 2019 NJCAA tournament. She was named the 2018 Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Assistant Coach of the Year. 
 
A native of Athens, Texas, Furr earned both her bachelor’s (2014) and master’s (2016) degrees from Fresno State where she was a five-year letterwinner and played in 133 games with 80 starts. Furr ranks in the Fresno State all-time top 10 in 3-pointers made and career free throw percentage. While playing at Athens High School, Furr was named the 2010 Texas Association of Basketball Coaches “Miss Texas” award, earned all-state recognition three years in a row, recorded 3,169 career points, and made 337 total three-pointers.
