Simpson promoted to Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at UAB

Head coach Randy Norton announced the promotion of Hunter Simpson as the new assistant coach of the UAB Women’s Basketball program.

“We’re thrilled to officially welcome Hunter ‘Scoot’ Simpson as an assistant coach,” Norton said. “Scoot started with us as a scout team player and then became a graduate assistant. He has earned everything through hard work, attention to details, humility, and a deep passion for the game. He’s one of the best communicators and organized people I have been around, and he brings tremendous knowledge, energy, and heart to our program. Most importantly, he’s an incredible person who lives out our culture every day. We’re proud to promote him and excited for what’s ahead.”

Simpson became a scout team player with the Blazers while finishing his last semester at UAB in 2023. After he graduated, Simpson was promoted to a student manager in 2024. As the student manager for the Green and Gold his duties included practice and game setup, on-court assistance, managed equipment and gear, assisted in team travel and video support.

For the 2024-25 season, Simpson was named the Blazers graduate assistant. As the graduate student he focused on participating in practice and player development, film and scouting, recruiting support, operation and logistics support, game film, film breakdown and editing and technology management.

Simpson graduated in the 2023 with his bachelor’s degree in digital forensics.
