Rob Beckmann has been named the 7th head coach of LSU Eunice Women’s Basketball, the LSUE Athletic Department announced. Beckmann joins LSU Eunice after spending the last four seasons at Independence Community College, serving as the Pirates’ head coach during the 2023-24 season.
Beckmann’s hire is pending approval of the LSU Board of Supervisors.
“Rob has an infectious personality and has a proven record of developing student-athletes that excel on and off the court,” LSU Eunice Athletic Director Jeff Willis said. “We are excited to welcome him here to LSU Eunice where we believe he will be an excellent fit to help out student-athletes reach their potential in all aspects.”
In his year atop the helm at ICC, Beckmann guided Independence to four wins over nationally ranked opponents. The Pirates swept Butler during the season series and logged victories over Coffeyville and Garden City in one of the most rugged conferences in junior college basketball, the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference.
Beckmann was on the Independence staff for three years prior to his ascent to the head coach post, helping guide the Pirates to the 2022 Jayhawk Conference Championship. In his first season at ICC, the Pirates secured the program’s first NJCAA Region VI Championship since 1996.
In those four years at Independence, Beckmann helped student-athletes secure more than 80 NCAA Division I offers and multiple opportunities at the NCAA Division II and other four-year levels.
“Purple and gold and wearing LSU across the chest means something across the entire landscape of collegiate athletics and I am thrilled to be the new head coach at LSU Eunice,” LSU Eunice Women’s Basketball head coach Rob Beckmann said. “We will work with great enthusiasm to create an elite level of success on the court, in the classroom, and in the community.”
“LSU Eunice has a history of success across all sports,” Beckmann added. “Winning while having a high level of integrity is built into the fabric of LSU Eunice, and I am extremely grateful to be a part of it.”
Prior to his time in Kansas, Beckmann was the Associate Head Coach for the Men’s Basketball team at the State College of Florida (SCF) for two seasons. The Manatees won the Suncoast Conference Tournament Championship twice and made two appearances in the Florida State Tournament.
Beckmann began his coaching career in the High School and AAU ranks for four years. He inherited a Sarasota Military Academy High team that had won a single game prior to his arrival, and during his second season helped guide the team to 16 wins, earning District Coach of the Year honors. His third season at SMA saw the team defeat multiple Top 10 teams in the state of Florida, winning the school’s first ever playoff game.
He would also establish the travel team BAE Sports, which competed in AAU, USSSA and US Amateur Tournaments, producing several student-athletes what would go on to play at the four-year level.
A graduate of the University of Arkansas in 2009, Beckmann holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Creative Writing. He was an honors program student while at Arkansas, studying in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences.
