Sam Waniewski has been named as the first-ever head women’s basketball coach at Southeast Arkansas College. SEARK will begin play as a member of NJCAA Region 2 and compete at the D2 level in men’s and women’s basketball starting next fall.
Waniewski had been working as an assistant men’s basketball coach at SEARK, recruiting and preparing for next season. Prior to his time with the Sharks, he served an an assistant for current SEARK men’s basketball coach and AD Chad Kline at Dyersburg State CC. Waniewski is no stranger to the JUCO level, having previously served as an assistant Seward County, Midland, Tallahassee, and Vincennes.
Wainiewski, who is still recruiting for the men’s team as well, told the Pine Bluff Commercial. “I’m just dividing up my time between both. It works out great here at the high schools; the women’s game will go first and the men will play right after that. So, I’m able to double dip the women’s and men’s at the same time on the same trip.”
The veteran coach also told the Commercial, “The more I got into Pine Bluff and immersed myself in the school — I loved my time over here at Southeast Arkansas — when I heard about the women’s basketball job, I talked to Coach Kline about it, and I thought it was a great opportunity. I always wanted to be a head coach. This seems like a great spot to be.”
SEARK will begin competing in baseball and softball this semester, and they have also launched an esports program.
