Cleveland State hired Lisa Phillips to lead the team this season and she is looking for more than just on the court success.
“My goal here is to build those foundational pieces that take these young women to the next level, not only on the court but in their academics and future careers,” head coach Lisa Phillips said.
Phillips joins the Cougars with over 20 years of coaching experience. Last year she was the head coach at Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin. The year prior she was an assistant coach for Palm Beach Atlantic University in West Palm Beach, Florida. In 2020 she was the director of women’s basketball operations at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, FL.
She also started a women’s basketball program at Regent University in Virginia Beach, VA where she was the head coach from 2018-2020.
“I am grateful and excited to start a new era of women’s basketball here at Cleveland State Community College,.” Phillips said. “I would like to thank the Director of Athletics Mike Pollicastro and the entire search committee for allowing me the opportunity to lead this program. I’m not only looking forward to coaching a talented group of student athletes but also empowering them to be the best versions of themselves on and off the court.”
The Cleveland State women’s basketball team’s first action will be October 1 in a Junior College Jamboree at Carrollton, GA. The Cougars are officially set to start their season November 1 at home against Bryan College.
