Salisbury University Director of Athletics and Campus Recreation Dr. Gerry DiBartolo announced on Wednesday that Kelly Baskow has resigned from her position as the head women’s basketball coach at SU to pursue other opportunities. Her last day at SU will be May 31.
“I would like to thank Kelly for her years of hard work and dedication to the women’s basketball program, our athletic department and our University,” stated DiBartolo. “Kelly has cared tremendously for each and every student-athlete in her program while helping them pursue their full academic and athletic potential. Kelly will remain a valued member of the Sea Gull family and we wish her nothing but the best in her future,”
Baskow spent 12 seasons as head coach at SU, amassing 182 victories and a .597 winning percentage. Under Baskow, the Sea Gulls won the 2015 Capital Athletic Conference (CAC, now Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference) championship and qualified for the NCAA Tournament twice in 2015 and 2022. In 2020-21, Salisbury completed its first undefeated season since 1955-56 after going 6-0 in the pandemic-shortened season.
As head coach, Baskow oversaw the development of two Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-Americans (Anna Hackett ’15, Kaylee Otlowski ’21-22), five All-Region honorees, two conference players of the year and two conference rookies of the year. In 2015, she was named CAC Coach of the Year and both WBCA and D3hoops.com Region Coach of the Year after leading the Sea Gulls to a program-best 28-3 record and a berth in the national quarterfinals, their deepest-ever NCAA Tournament run.
“I want to thank Dr. DiBartolo, our athletic department staff, alumni, student-athletes and assistant coaches for the trust and support they have shown me during my time here at SU,” said Baskow. “I would also like to thank Dr. Michael Vienna (former AD at SU) for first hiring me and giving me my dream job. It has been an unbelievable ride with unforgettable players and coaches. SU is all about the people, and I will miss them the most, but it is time for me to be there for my husband and sons, as they have always supported me. We are excited and will continue to be Sea Gull fans.”
A national search will be conducted during the spring semester and Baskow’s successor will be in place to prepare for the 2023-24 season.
