Florida Tech head coach John Reynolds has announced the hiring of Michaela Gelbaugh as assistant coach of the Florida Tech women’s basketball program.
“I’m excited to add Michaela to our coaching staff,” said Reynolds. “Being an alum and having competed in the SSC, she knows and understands what it takes to become a successful team in this conference.
“As a player, her ability to connect and build strong relationships with her teammates was one of her strengths. That ability will go a long way to develop the culture of our program. As a point guard, her understanding of the game will be of great value.”
Gelbaugh, an alumnus of Florida Tech, had a successful playing career with the Panthers from 2016-19. Over her career, she played in 68 games shooting 28.71% from the field, 22.22% from the three-point range and 81.91% from the free-throw line. Gelbaugh tallied 211 points, 78 rebounds, 52 assists, 31 steals and seven blocks.
“I am very excited about this opportunity to coach at my alumna mater,” said Gelbaugh. “The knowledge and experience I gained as a student-athlete has provided me with the essential tools to help this team succeed. I look forward to the upcoming season.”
Gelbaugh comes to Florida Tech after serving as a Registered Behavior Technician at Behavior Basics Inc. where she assisted in delivering behavior analysis services including in-home, clinic and school-based clients.
Prior to her time at Behavior Basics Inc, she was a Mental Health Technician at Devereux Behavior Health from May 2019 to November 2019, and she served as the assistant women’s basketball coach at Stone Magnet Middle School.
Gelbaugh graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Forensic Psychology from Florida Tech in May 2019 and is currently working towards her Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA) Certification.
